Whether you are a designer, a coder or a writer, there is something you can do to increase your chances of getting your bids selected for freelance work.
In my experience, after sorting through hundreds, if not thousands, of bids on freelance work over the last few years, there is one thing that stands out to me when selecting a bidder for a job. Here is what a bidder needs to do for me to take notice and start the job awarding process:
1. REASSURE ME – I want to know that you know what I’m talking about. Tell me how you know exactly what I want and then spell out exactly how you plan on executing the job.
Then, (bonus point) tell me you can get it done fast!
Then, ( bonus point #2) – tell me how you have done word like this many times before.
Of course, don’t lie. If you are hesitant about your skills and ability to get the job done, don’t lie and say that you have done it a million times before. But, for heaven sakes, if you are confident you can get the job done - then say it!
I can’t count how many times I have looked over bids that have just said, “I can do this” or no comment at all, just a dollar amount. How do people expect to get selected?
I want bidders to sell me on themselves, tell me what qualifies you to be the one I should hire.
It’s Not All About The Bottom Line – Don’t think it’s always about the dollar amount either. I rarely accept the lowest bid on a job. I usually end up choosing someone with a bid amount that is about average. But, what I really want more than anything is for the job to be done well and done fast. I think I can speak for other job posters out there as well.
